Tracing and Tracking of 4M's-Man, Material, Machine and Method

In our whitepaper titled “Accelerating Adoption of Industry 4.0 by MSMEs – Use Cases and Viewpoints”, the Manufacturing Working Group of the IET Future Tech panel presented a list of top 6 business key performance indicators (KPIs) and benefits most organisations can achieve by embracing technology solutions.

The whitepaper series produced by the team following on this, attempts to present a list of technology building blocks with an aim to provide MSMEs options of emerging technologies, infrastructure and platform needed that can help  realise a multitude of use-cases in a holistic way.

This is the second edition of a multi part whitepaper authored by experts from our Manufacturing working group of the IET Future Tech Panel on Tracing and Tracking of 4M's- Man, Material, Machine and Method. It focuses on and explains:

  • Why traceability of 4Ms (Man, Material, Machine and Method) is important and how it can provide direct visibility into the manufacturing process?
  • Which are the relevant and cost-effective technologies, combined with application software, to be considered and deployed?
  • What are the positive impacts of traceability solutions in manufacturing processes?
